Victoria Park Barrambin

In the heart of Brisbane/Meanjin lies an expanse of green hemmed in by major arterials and urbanisation.

Country: Yagara and Turrbal

Role: First Nations Community Engagement Co-Lead + Indigenous Design Consultant

Client: Brisbane City Council

Location: Brisbane, Queensland

Collaborators: Traditional Custodians, The Fulcrum Agency

Traditionally, Victoria Park/Barrambin is a meeting and gathering place for Indigenous groups travelling through the area, as well as a cultural site for corroboree, dance, hunting and fishing.

As part of the Victoria Park/Barrambin Masterplan, it is set to become a natural retreat, an urban oasis for adventure, discovery, and reconnection. By expanding the city’s active transport network and promoting sustainable travel, the park will also feature green transport infrastructure aimed at reducing car traffic.

Victoria Park/Barrambin will also serve as a vital urban link, connecting the park to its neighbours and the wider community, offering more travel options for everyone.

Aboriginal social and emotional wellbeing always needs to be factored into the process.
