Brisbane 2032 Connecting with Country Strategy

The "Brisbane 2032: Connecting with Country Strategy" is a significant initiative that aims to embed First Nations perspectives onto a global stage.

Role: First Nations Design and Engagement Specialist

Client: Games Venue and Legacy Delivery Authority (GVLDA) and Office of the Queensland Government Architects (OQGA)

Country: Yagara, Turrbal, Kabi Kabi, Yugambeh, Yidinji

Location: Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and Cairns, Queensland

Developed by Blaklash in partnership with the Olympic and Paralympic Infrastructure Office (OPIO) and the Office of the Queensland Government Architect (OQGA), the Strategy works towards weaving in First Nations values into the infrastructure development for the upcoming Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

This Strategy emerged from a year-long engagement process with various local and state government bodies, as well as Traditional Custodian groups across Southeast and Far North Queensland.

Crucially, it is designed to guide project teams in engaging meaningfully with First Nations communities. It focuses on co-designing outcomes that deliver tangible social, economic, and environmental benefits, ensuring that the opportunities created have a lasting impact beyond the lifespan of the projects themselves.

Building on decades of work by First Nations people, leaving a meaningful and enduring legacy for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games is an outcome we’re all striving towards.

This is a significant initiative that aims to embed First Nations perspectives onto a global stage.
